Anesthesia for Children’s Dental Care

Sometimes children are unable to comfortably receive dental care with nitrous oxide or mild sedation alone. In these situations, your child’s safety and comfort must come first. As part of our comprehensive children’s dental care in New Hampshire, Dr. Wilson may recommend treatment with a licensed anesthesiologist.

General anesthesia allows your child to be fully asleep during dental procedures, ensuring they remain comfortable and still while treatment is completed safely and efficiently. As a trusted pediatric dentist in New Hampshire, Dr. Patrick Wilson works closely with experienced anesthesia professionals to provide a calm and controlled environment for your child’s care.

When Is General Anesthesia Recommended?

General anesthesia may be recommended when:

  • A child is very young and unable to cooperate for treatment
  • Extensive dental work is needed
  • A child experiences significant dental anxiety or fear
  • Special healthcare needs require a more controlled environment

Our goal is always to choose the safest and most appropriate option for your child’s individual needs.

In-Office vs Hospital Anesthesia

Depending on your child’s health, age, and treatment requirements, general anesthesia may be performed either in our office or in a hospital setting.

In office anesthesia may be appropriate for healthy children who require dental treatment in a controlled and familiar environment. This option allows for efficient care while maintaining a high level of safety and comfort.

Hospital based anesthesia may be recommended for younger children, more complex cases, or when additional medical support is needed. A hospital setting provides access to advanced monitoring and resources to ensure the highest level of safety.

Our pediatric dentist will carefully review all options with you and help determine the best setting for your child’s care.

A Focus on Safety and Comfort

Your child’s safety is our top priority. Every case involving general anesthesia is carefully planned and coordinated with qualified anesthesia professionals. We take into account your child’s medical history, treatment needs, and overall health to ensure a safe and smooth experience.

As part of our commitment to children’s dental care in New Hampshire, we are here to answer your questions, explain each step of the process, and help you feel confident in your child’s treatment plan.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience. After going someone where else first that just wanted to pull teeth instead of fixing them we tried here. All the staff and doctor were absolutely wonderful. Came up with a wonderful care plan, my daughter had zero pain or discomfort and he addressed a few issues at once. We fee very comfortable with staff knowledge, explanation and care given. The self pay membership plan was also a huge cost savings as well as we self pay regardless.

Hands down the best experience my 2 year old and I have had yet! It was a breeze talking with Kris to schedule my son’s first dentist appointment. She was so nice and very helpful when I asked her about insurance coverage. She had Gabby in billing call me to answer a couple questions I had.

I was so nervous about my son’s first dentist appointment. He is a VERY active boy who rarely ever sits still.

When we arrived at GOPD, we liked how clean and orderly the general atmosphere was. The front desk staff were so down to earth and nice, it made me feel a lot better. We then met with dental hygienist, Sky, and she was so unbelievably sweet, patient and helpful with my son, showing him all the tools and letting him try them out. Dr. Patrick was amazing as well!

Honestly, I don’t have one bad thing to say. Everyone was so welcoming, nice and knowledgeable! My husband and I were impressed and very grateful to have found such a great place!

It was such a great first experience! Highly recommend!
