Is Dental Sedation Safe?

Dental Sedation

Do you experience anxiety and phobia during dental check-ups?

You aren’t alone. Around 1/3rd of Americans experience dental fear and anxiety.

Dover dental sedation offers a solution to such individuals so they can remain calm and get the required dental treatments. However, many patients are concerned about the safety of dental sedation.

Let’s find out more about dental sedation below.

Dental Sedation – Overview

Many individuals, particularly children, experience dental fear and phobias. As a result, they often miss out on their dental check-ups and end up being more prone to developing oral health concerns that may require more invasive dental procedures.

Dover sedation is a solution for such individuals as it helps ease anxiety and fear, allowing the patient to remain more comfortable so the dentists can work more efficiently. Moreover, it is commonly used in pediatric dentistry to ease young patients who may fear dental check-ups.

The dentist uses nitrous oxide or intravenous (IV) sedation to relax the patient to easily receive adequate dental care.

Is Dental Sedation Safe

Many patients who experience dental anxiety are concerned about the safety of dental sedation. While it is completely safe, some individuals may experience short-term side effects, including the following.

  • Nausea
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Headaches

On a positive note, these side effects are short-lived and subside within a few hours.
